Quilt Show 2016 Fourth of July

I was responsible for organizing the publicity and ticket sales for the 2016 quilt raffle that Grayson Country Quilters does each year.  Our members were down in number, so we only sold 8 days, but many members sold on their own, and we deposited around $2000 before the 4th of July even arrived.  Thank you everyone who helped.  This fund raiser supports us in the projects we do during the rest of the year.  Cathy Redd was the winner of this beautiful quilt.

During the year, Marsha Johnson, Kathleen Lyman, DeAnn Ivins and other officers organized 3 two-day sewing events, where we worked on all kinds of projects for the Primary Children's Hospital.  Nancy Kimmerle, Kathy Hurst, and Carol Fredere put together a wonderful display at the quilt show, of all the things we've made to donate to Festival of Trees.  Those funds all go Primary Children's Hospital.

This was the quilt I helped Kathy Hurst make.  Lots of stitching and cutting, but it wasn't too hard.  She is great to work with and so organized...not quite the right brained strategies I usually use!

Laurie, Brendan, and I also made quite a few pillow cases for Primary Children's Hospital.
Here are some of them.

Ethan and Sam, Quent and Quincy helped us set up the quilt show this year, and Steve helped take it down along with lots of Ivins and Johnson grandkids and other spouses.

Even though I had seven quilt projects lined up to finish this winter.  I only completed two of them, but am thankful for that!  There were so many other things I was doing.
They are both made using the same crazy patch technique.  This first one is called "I Love Paris" reminding me of the fun days we spent dashing around the city of Paris. The Eiffel Tower is predominant on this print, and since we were there, it has special meaning.  This was given to Kylee Wilcox in 2019 for her graduation present.

Below Steve is shown reading the San Juan Record in the adjacent parking lot next to the Eiffel Tower.  Both of us next to Eiffel Statue which is adjacent to this magnificent tower.

My tribute to San Juan County pictographs,  "If Walls Could Talk."  Steve helped me with the pictograph shapes.

2016, my good friend, Marsha Lawhorn from St. George was down for the 4th.  It was great having some time to catch up with our lives while walking around the quilt show.

4-H Camp 2016

Three of our grandchildren stayed with us after our big family reunion Memorial Day weekend.  Hailey brought fabric to make her first quilt, and her mom's sewing machine.  The first two days she spent designing the quilt, cutting out all the strips using a rotary blade, and then started sewing the strips together.  She had practiced sewing straight before she started and did very well.  Here are her first strips.  She ended up finishing it at home, and made a coverlet for both bunk beds. Two of the pictures below show the quilting patterns Jeri Montella used when she quilted them.

Here are the finished quilts.  Pretty good work, Hailey!  So glad you finished.

Brendan learned how to press seams and sew a pretty straight seam.

Laurie and Brendan learned how to make designer pillow cases.  They made two for themselves, and then several sets for Primary Children's Hospital.    Here are some of their finished products.

Comfort Comes Through Quilts

Our Grayson Country Quilt Guild presented a quilt to Paula Atcitty Allen in June.  She lost her home, vehicles, family dogs and ATV's to a fire recently in Bluff.  Paula is a former student of mine who graduated from San Juan High.  She is now a dialysis nurse at the Blue Mountain Hospital.  I'm so glad the officers responded so quickly to this suggestion, as she is one of my favorite people, always so positive and upbeat.  This has been a very trying time for her and her family.

Building a Fabric Barn

Patty Lyman asked me to help her make a fabric barn for a Farm Days presentation she was doing.  It took about a week to do, with all the embellishments.  Both she and Steve helped find animal and tractor pictures I could use.  Hopefully, it will be used more than once.

She used it for a presentation she did at USU talking about Farm Days

Sewing for Family

Beginning stages of Easter Eggs I made for each of our kid's families Spring 2015.  Later showed it at Feb. workshop.

Below is a quilt I had made for Glena Chetwood Guzman, a 1st cousin once removed.  She is my Aunt Orpha's granddaughter.  She and her twin sister Elaine were orphaned when both parents died early, and they were raised by their paternal grandmother.  I've been communicating with them, so that they might know something of their mother's family history.

This quilt is being made for Elaine Chetwood who got married last August.
